Consistency is a core value of the Outdoor Church. Our Sunday services are held every Sunday, in every season and in any weather.

                            9 A.M. SERVICE OF PRAYER & COMMUNION
Our morning service is held on the concrete patio outside the Porter Square T-stop, at the intersection of Massachusetts Ave. and Somerville Ave (see map). When the weather is too windy or rainy, we move inside the T-station, in the glassed-in area atop the escalators. Following the service, congregants are invited to enjoy a light meal.

                            1 P.M. SERVICE OF PRAYER & COMMUNION
Our afternoon service is held in the Cambridge Common park at stone benches on southwest side of the Civil War Memorial (see map). When the weather is too windy, rainy, or cold, we move indoors to the lobby of Christ Church Cambridge, located across the street at Zero Garden Street. Following the service, congregants are invited to enjoy a light meal, after which the ministers, interns and volunteers hit the streets in the street outreach portion of our ministry.

                            3:45 P.M. SERVICE OF COMPLINE
Otherwise known as "Night Prayer," compline is the last worship service of the day in many Christian denominations. Contemplative prayer and the reading of psalms form the heart of compline. Our compline service is held in Central Square at the public plaza on River Street next to the First Baptist Church (see map). Following the service, we serve a light meal and then continue with our street outreach in Central Square.

                            WHAT ARE OUR SERVICES LIKE?
Our services are based on the Book of Common Prayer and incorporate other prayers that have particular meaning to our congregants. The liturgy is designed to be accessible to people of many Christian traditions. Everyone is welcome to participate as they feel comfortable, to take communion or not, to say a prayer or not, to sit down, stand up, or walk around.

Members of the congregation read the scriptures each week and assist with communion. Instead of a sermon, the congregation is invited to share comments about the scripture reading and, after this, to share prayer concerns with the community. The services are casual and usually last between 20-40 minutes, depending on how talkative we are on a given Sunday.

After each service, we share sandwiches, socks, and toiletries. At the morning service, we also enjoy hot coffee and donuts.
