Since our founding in 2003, student interns have participated in all aspects of ministry at the Outdoor Church and they continue to play an essential role in our ministry team, providing pastoral care and material assistance alongside our ordained clergy. In turn, their experience with us becomes an integral part of their education and vocation. Our alumnae/i have gone on to diverse professional practices, including chaplaincy, mental health outreach, journalism, non-profit administration, social service, teaching, and medicine.
An internship at the Outdoor Church is modeled on the field education program at Harvard Divinity School, which combines rigorous theological reflection with extensive field experience. For each unit of field education, students are required to complete 350-400 hours of field experience, including time for supervision and theological reflection. To find out more about what an internship at the Outdoor Church is like, check out our internship position description or contact our executive director, Thomas Hathaway, at director@theoutdoorchurch.net with any questions you might have. |
